Key Largo, Florida, January 2015:
If you have never been to the Keys in Florida, it should definitely be on your bucket list. The weather was perfect, sunny, low humidity and a nice breeze all the time.
We have been there twice, back in January 2014 and January of 2015. January is normally our slow time at the B&B 1825 Inn Bed and Breakfast so we enjoy Key Largo in the winter months.
Key Largo is the first small town and first island you come to as you travel down US 1. Since 1948, when it was the setting for the movie, “Key Largo,” starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, the name Key Largo has become world famous. We went to see the famous boat and there she sat, newly restored and it was neat just to see her sitting there knowing Bogie and Bacall sat in it. African Queen Key Largo and they still do daily and dinner cruises.
And who can forget the music video for Bertie Higgins 1982 hit, “Key Largo”.
Some days we spent taking the kayaks through Pennekamp’s Mangrove Trails or day trips to Key West. More on Key West in a later post. We stayed at Key Largo Kampground which is right on the Edge of a Coral Reef in Key Largo. We really enjoyed staying there for three weeks and never had a dull moment. They have everything from pot luck dinners, bingo night (which I won on our first night $60.00…lol), crafts, Friday fish fry’s and even coffee and doughnut meet and greets in the morning once a week. They practically greet you with open arms and they were the warmest and friendly people we have met in our travels. The year before we met a great couple Veronica and Denny aka rvoutlawz which we still keep in touch with ,and hoping to reconnect on our Fall trip out west in late August – September( fingers crossed). “Like Key Lime pie ?” then you must try Key Lime Pie on a stick, dipped in chocolate and then frozen. Blond Giraffe So,if you get the chance to go to Key Largo, take it. You’ll be glad you did.
