Our Trip to Cape Cod, Mass. 2014
In July of 2014, we took an awesome two week vacation up the New England Coast. The drive through Massachusetts gave you the feeling of serenity and peace. Quaint towns, miles of beautiful beaches, lobster and clam shacks everywhere you looked. Cape Cod Online
We took The Steamship Authority over to Nantucket Island from Hyannis for the day. First thing we noticed were the gorgeous hydrangeas. We talked to a native of the island and she told us it was the salt air that made them so luscious and big. So when we got home we put salt in a spray bottle and sprayed our hydrangeas…FYI….not the same….LOL. We had taken our bikes and road all over the island seeing the First Congregational Church built in 1725, where you could climb to the top of the steeple to get a 360 degree view, where you see for miles. Will said it was a beautiful site to see…I opted out of the climb up.
After all the riding, we needed a short break so we came upon Petticoat Row Bakery . The selection of baked good was overwhelming, everything from cupcakes, cookies, breads and lunch specials. We of course chose the chocolate croissants, since we are from Hershey, Pa.,)
It was getting late so we hopped on the ferry and went back to Hyannis, but we easily could have spent an extra day on Nantucket Island.
Hyannis is known for its beaches and lots of gift shops, an array of entertainment venues and of course The John F. Kennedy Museum. We didn’t have much time to explore Hyannis, but someday we’ll return.
Now, the best part of our trip…Provincetown, Mass. It is a haven for artists, music, theater and food. The weather couldn’t have been better…sunny and low 70’s. . A lot of walking down Commercial Street which has shops after shops from art galleries to your typical tourist traps. We had an outstanding lunch at Pepes Wharf which has been around since 1970, had the best cocktails around. I had a cucumber martini that was so refreshing to compliment my Arugula Romaine Salad with fresh lemon, olive oil grape tomatoes and Parmesan Frico Garnish and Will had a fresh fried cod sandwich which was out of this world. If you ever get the chance to go to the “Cape”, do so….you’ll have to regrets.
After all…. ” In the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take”
